The Roofing Racers are a triathlon team wholly composed of roofing contractors, experts, trade press, manufacturers and distributors; running together to support the Macmillan Cancer Support and Great Ormond Street Hospital charities.
Their ‘Raising the Roof’ scheme has already raised enough money to help build a new Neurosciences Centre in the Ormond Hospital.
Their next goal is to raise money for a new Children’s Medical Centre. One of the key ideas behind the new centre will be higher inpatient support allowing parents and carers to remain beside their child’s bedside in comfort.
To reach that goal they hope to raise £100,000 this year, which they are already set to do after matching last years total of £80,000.
The team has been running, cycling and swimming for charity for the last three years and has more than 150 members.
Their most recent event was the Virgin Active London Triathlon on the 22 to 23rd of September. The event involved a 750m swim from the River Thames’ Royal Victoria Dock, a 20km cycle and a 5km sprint finish.
The London Triathlon is the largest in the world and every year attracts over 11,000 competitors and 30,000 spectators, including a bevy of elite and professional athletes.
